Fishy names at North Sea Fish Restaurant

We recently ate at the North Sea Fish Restaurant (Leigh Street, Camden Town in London) and were tickled pink by their translations of fish names on their table mats!
Who in the world did they ask to translate Cod and Sole??
Must be machine translation, say our friends...

Cod is translated into Japanese as "Cash On Delivery" 

(C.O.D.) 代金引き換で　(daikin hikikae-de)!!!

Dover Sole is translated into Japanese as "bottom" 底 (TEI, soko), like the sole of your foot!!

In Chinese it is called 唯一 (wei-i), meaning "sole" as in "you are my sole lover"!

In both, 'Dover' is given phonetically:

Japanese ドーバー (doobaa)

Chinese 多佛尓 (duofa'er)

Kenkyusha's New Little English-Japanese Dictionary gives perfectly good names for 　
Sole (下比目魚、シタビラメ shita-birame, meaning 'bottom flatfish') and Cod ( 鱈、タラ tara).

In Chinese, cod is 鱈魚 xuěyú ('snowy fish'), while sole is 鳎魚 tǎyú ('sole'), as given in the Beijing Foreign Languages Academy's A Chinese-English Dictionary.

The North Sea Fish Restaurant is vaunted as one of the best fish restaurants in London; its chippy (that's a fish & chips shop) for take-away is next door, but if you want your fish sitting down, the restaurant is good (with interesting table-mats, see above!). We do find, however, that their portions are too large and most of their seafood is deep-fried (including their fish cakes, a surprise). You can order grilled fish, but you have to order the jumbo size, which is way too much food (but maybe that's not a problem for most Americans!). So actually, we don't think it's such a great place to eat.
